Three JHTF athletes competed Saturday at Avon High School in the inaugural Indiana Middle State Meet Regional Qualifier. In years past anyone could enter the Middle School State Championships, this year for the 1st time there were 4 Regional meets held throughout the state where the Top 5 finishers in each event qualified for next Saturday's (May 23rd) State Championships held at Indiana State University. 8th Grade Golden Eagles Brantley Blair and Sam Fern along with Lady Eagle classmate Kourtney Volmer all earned the opportunity to compete at the Regional Meet Saturday. During a long on again off again constantly delayed due to weather event Blair and Volmer both qualified for the State Finals. Blair won both of his events taking the 1600 Meter Run and 2400 Meter Run. Blair posted a new personal best and Program record 4:22 to win the 1600 by 20 seconds. He then ran a controlled pace in the 2400 focused on just qualifying winning in 7:33 nearly 15 seconds ahead of 2nd. Blair was the State Runner Up in the 2400 in 2025 as a 7th Grader and has a Program Record of 7:00 for the event. Blair who won the Middle School Cross Country State Championship in the fall enters next Saturday as the Top Seed in both events. Volmer took 2nd in the Long Jump to qualify for State in a New Personal Best jump of 16-4 breaking her own Program record of 15-10 set earlier this season. The winner of the event jumped 17-1.5. Blair and Volmer won a combined 7 events at the Central Indiana Conference Meet a week ago and have combined to set 6 Program Records this year. Fern who has also had a stellar 8th grade year in the throws and sprints competed in the Shot Put where he finished 9th with a toss of 38-5. Fern made the final but was short of his personal best by 4 feet and ultimately his goal to qualify for State. Blair and Volmer compete for Middle School State Championships Saturday at ISU.
