The OHXC Golden Eagles had arguably their most impressive showing of the season at the New Haven Classic putting 4 runners in the Top 8 and winning their 15 school division by a strong 26 points. The Golden Eagles who are currently ranked #5 in the State in the combined Class 1a-2a Rankings have now not lost a meet since August 12th, in the process won 5 major invitationals, and have a record since then of 119-0. Entering Saturday's meet, held at Huntington University's IHSAA Super Regional course, the Golden Eagles on paper were seeded 4th or 5th in the predominately Class 3a (Medium Sized AA) field but rode a tough run from their Top 4 to beat very strong West Noble, Norwell, Wawasee, and Angola teams. Senior Corban Tippey fresh off his Grant 4 Title had another great run taking 3rd overall on the tough course. Classmate Brayden Sommers, Junior Wyatt Hart, and Sophomore Josh Clark were all not too far behind as the trio made a handful of passes late to come across the line in 6th, 7th, and 8th all earning Top 40 Podium Medals. Golden Eagle 5th man Sophomore Bret Hueston was having a good day but fell ill mid race putting pressure on Freshman Cooper McQuiston who moved up late into the Top 40 also earning a Top 40 podium medal in 36th. Freshman Graham Arrendale and Eli Leak run well rounding out the Varsity Top 7 finishing 59th and 60th respectively. The Golden Eagles won with a low 59 points while West Noble and Norwell tied for 2nd and 3rd with 85 points. The Golden Eagles compete for their 10th straight Central Indiana Conference Title next Saturday October 4th at Indiana Wesleyan.
